Great Barrier Reef - Activities and Entertainment

One of the great attractions and an excellent way of being part and observing all the wonders of nature the Great Barrier Reef has to offer, is snorkeling and scuba diving.

In order to accommodate the divers 'liveaboards' are offered all around. A liveaboard is a ship which facilitates the divers to stay on board for one or more nights while being able to to travel long distances. This gives them the opportunity to reach and see more of the reef, without having to go through the trouble of driving long distances each day.

In case you are not too keen on diving in, there are many more activities which allow you to take in all the beauty the reef has to offer. Day trips, cruises, diving courses, sky diving, hot air balloon tours and scenic flights will give you a good perspective on this wondrous world, providing you don't suffer from Vertigo where that last form of entertainment is concerned.

Should you rather stay down to earth then you may enjoy a tour by vehicle and breath in the atmosphere of the diversity in landscape which the Outback has to offer. More 'traditional' attractions that can be found in North Queensland are: the beach, a golf course, horse riding, several different musea, the Zoo, a visit to the Opal and other mines, markets, parks and hiking trails, kayaking and rafting.

A little tip from yours truly: make sure to bring enough batteries for your camera!
