Grand Canyon - Businesses and Amenities

Don't expect to find many businesses on site; you will be sorely disappointed. Do expect to find all the necessities though like restaurants in the park.

At the South rim there are showers and a laundromat available, but those are coin operated and open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and your last load of laundry should be in the machines at 4:45 pm.

You will also find general stores, car rental, taxi services, gas station and garage, gift shops, book store and camping equipment stores. Most of these are located at Desert View, Grand Canyon Village and Tusayan.

The post office is located at the Market Plaza. Opening hours are: Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The lobby is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

A bank and ATM can also be found at the Market Plaza and opening hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Keep in mind that travelers checks and only the major credit cards are accepted.

There is a walk in Medical Clinic, which is located on the South rim of the Canyon and open all year around. Should you want to spend a day without kids, the Child Day Care at The Kaibab Learning Center will take care of infants and children till 12 year old, providing there is space available. They are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. They require Immunization records, so be sure to bring those with you!

As far as your other critters go: pets are allowed in the parks, but not below the rim, in park lodging or on park buses. Keep in mind that they have to be on a leash at all times. In case you like to go below the rim, you can take advantage of the kennels which are open daily from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Medical services on the North rim are provided by rangers on duty. A restaurant, snack bar, gas station and garage for minor repairs, as well as coin operated showers and laundromat, limited grocery stores, book store and gift shop annex post office are located on the North rim.

Post office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to noon and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It is closed during the weekend and on holidays.

The South rim is open all year around, but the North rim is open from mid May to mid October and even that is dependant on the weather. Since the North rim is much higher than the South rim, heavy snow fall and frost don't permit this side of the Canyon to be open during winter time.
It may be easier to take the shuttle buses to visit many of the spectacular views the Canyon has to offer. It may be safer plus you have the entire time to take in this wonder of nature.
