Palau Creates World's First Shark Sanctuary
Palau is a great tourist destination; it is a tropical Island and offers lots of under water attractions like coral reefs, caves, lots of different species of fish and even some rare and strange under water creatures.
I can appreciate that the president of Palau would like to contribute to the preservation of animal life, but I am not so sure that a shark sanctuary is the route to go. If you consider that most tourists spend a lot of their time under water, their safety might be at issue here.
It is only treating a consequence, not the problem. As long as shark fin soup is a delicacy and people are so inclined to pay good money for a bowl, Palau's sanctuary may not make much of a difference. Sharks go wherever there is food and by doing so risk becoming food.
Hopefully, Palau's president is not going to resort to shark behaviour to press this matter. If that is the case, then you better avoid this tropical paradise.
Unless you like to become the main course of a feeding frenzy!
