10 Ways to Vacation Without Going Broke
This headline sparked my interest and I had to check it out. The 10 ways they gave provoked the following strain of thoughts:
- Work Toward a Common Goal.
I thought going on family vacation was the common goal?
- Look for Teachable Moments.
It seems to me like kids would be fed up after being taught a whole year at school. You should expect a 'Whatever'!
- Put it on Autopilot.
What? The vacation? That ain't gonna fly!
- Be Social.
We are taking the kids, aren't we?!
- Put it on Layaway.
That wouldn't matter; I can't afford it anyway.
- Play the Percentage Game.
Okay: How great are the odds of not going over budget while on vacation??
- Don't Forget to Count Your Paycheck.
Don't worry, we won't. We will be going nowhere without it!
- Get a New Card.
Been there, done that!
- Give Kids Fiscal Responsibility.
How about a restraining order for every store and ice cream parlor around?
- Devise a Pay-Off Plan.
Pay off the kids for learning during vacation and staying away from stores etc.? That could turn out to be a costly mistake!
It is working against the common goal.
They only learn manipulation.
Our vacation is shot.
It is unsocial behavior on their part.
They risk being put on Layaway forever.
It ensures a 100% that...
our paycheck is totally out of the equation.
Another card is out of the question; a second mortgage would be more in order.
They will learn fiscal responsibility: they will pay!
We will devise a Pay-Back Plan!
I suppose the best way to go on vacation without going broke is... not to go at all. Set up a tent in the backyard, build a camp fire and roast marsh mallows. For a more adventures and dramatic effect, play a DVD in the background with wild animal noises.
Seriously, some tips were quite good. If you like to read them, you can find them on the ABC News website.
