Winter Storm Precautions For Home

A snow storm can cause major problems and not just for travelers, but for those living in the area where it occurs as well. In case you are one of those, you may already know how best to survive. A reminder and checking up on the list could prevent you from breaking out in a cold sweat when the storm arrives.

At home:
Ensure to have the following items in your home in case the power goes out:
- plenty of candles, matches or lighters, batteries, flash lights, battery operated radio/television, bottled water, toilet paper, nonperishable foods such as powdered milk, protein bars, cereal or crackers, canned goods, a non electric can opener, a small cooler, prescription medicines and any over-the-counter remedies you use regularly.

For young infants or toddlers; diapers, baby wipes, formula, baby food. Have some games, books, crayons, paper and other toys around to keep your kids busy. Remember... no power, no TV and video games. Keep them inside; a frost bite is a true reality in that blowing cold!

Also try to find alternative heating, because many heating systems require electricity which will not be available when you loose power. A generator would not be a luxury item to purchase overcoming these circumstances comfortably!

Whether at home or on the road, make sure that everyone knows where to find these necessities. It would be good to designate a certain place in either house or car for it, so they will be found quickly and easily. The same tip goes for being at home as for in the car: make sure your mobile phones are all fully charged.

I hope you will not have to go through this, but when you do then I sure hope it will be over soon and everyone is okay.
