You wouldn't suspect it; these survival pods, once serving on an oil rig platform, now serve as accommodations for visitors who like to spend the night in an unusual way.

These bright orange rooms can be found in The Hague, The Netherlands, where they are docked in a canal. However, water still tends to move no matter what and your room may still be swaying to and fro a little. You certainly will need a firm grip and a steady foot stepping inside, instead of the water.

The pods are almost 14 feet in diameter and offer space and sleeping bags for up to three persons. The only modification is a lock on the outside and installation of an 'emergency' chemical toilet inside.

You have the choice between a basic survival package or a James Bond themed package. The first one offers cotton lined sleeping bags and emergency rations, while the second one comes with silk lined sleeping bags, a DVD player with all the Bond movies, and the possibility to shake or stir you own Martini.

Both packages include bikes which are extremely useful for sightseeing and getting around in this city. The Hague is recidency to the Dutch parliament and therefore has many official buildings, but is also rich in art galleries, museums, canals, and parks.

Depending on the package, a stay in these unusual hotel rooms will cost you somewhere from $100 to $250. It sure is a weird overnighter which you don't get to experience often. The opportunity for staying in the pods may become rather common though; the owner is in the process of setting up additional locations in central Amsterdam and even Nantes, France.

This accommodation sure gives an entire new meaning to the expression: like two peas in a pod.
