A cheap, but wonderful camp site can be found at the Oregon Trail Wagon Train Campground in Bayard, Nebraska. It is an ideal place for parking your RV or pitching your tent at one of the 10 available spaces.These pull-through, well situated sites located at the base of famous Chimney Rock, come with full hook-ups for RVs and cost just $20 per night, while you pay only $10 for a spot to set up your tent. Among the amenities are showers and laundry facilities, but since there are not that many camping sites, you would do well to make reservations.
The beauty of this environment can not only be found in its marvelous, unique nature, but also in its rich history; during 1812-1866, half a million pioneers undertook the challenging 2,000 mile journey West by traveling the Oregon Trail.
You may not be able to imagine what an ordeal that was, but you certainly can experience it for yourself by attending one of the Historic Old West Tours which start at 8 a.m. and end a little after 11 a.m. They are taken by covered wagon, just like the immigrants did, and cost $15.00 per person.
These few hours will give you a glimpse in and off the lives of all those who went before you so many years ago.
