Caution: Hosmer Grove, Haleakala National Park, Maui, Hawaii

A stay at the Hosmer Grove campground or cabins, or even just a daily trip or visit to Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii, is not entirely without any dangers.

You have to keep in mind that the high altitude may not be suitable for those with respiratory problems, heart conditions, young children, and pregnant women. You would do wisely to consult your physician first, before exposing yourself and your family to these higher elevations.

Even when you are healthy and well, there are some things to remember in order to avoid health issues: walk slowly and avoid dehydration by drinking lots of fluids. Seek medical attention if you need it and park rangers are more then happy to answer and see to any questions or concerns you have.

Since this is also a very remote area, you shouldn't expect to find many amenities. The only stores you will find here are bookstores, but no restaurants, gas stations, or other shops.

This means you will have to bring your own supply of food and/or gas, or leave the park and take at least a 30-minute drive to the nearest city when the need arises.

Even with all these warnings and potential dangers, it doesn't take away from the beauty of the landscape and the high altitude has its benefits as well: some amazing sunsets and night skies will be presented to you.

Just sit back and enjoy!
