Hosmer Grove, Haleakala National Park, Maui, Hawaii

If you want to find a cheap campground located in the middle of some gorgeous handiwork of Mother Nature, then Hosmer Grove in the 30,000 acre Haleakala National Park at Maui, Hawaii should be on top of your list.

Besides staying, literally and figuratively speaking, at a top location of mount Haleakala, you will also find a diverse landscape such as tropical forests, waterfalls, all kinds of ecological environments, endangered species, and lots of culture.

You can dwell in the summit area and enjoy the landscape formed by volcanoes, literally walk with your head in the clouds by going all the way up to the top and be amazed by the uncanny sights, or spend some time in the wilderness area of the mountain which has some wonderful nature to offer.

There are plenty more activities you can partake in, such as hiking, sky watching, swimming, and ranger guided activities. The park is open the entire year, every day and around the clock, unless the weather rains on your parade, but that would have to be severe.

Some other great news is that the campground is entirely free. The available space goes by a 'first-come, first-served' basis, accommodates up to 50 people and you are allowed to stay for up to 3 nights per month. A group consisting of 12 persons is the limit though, so keep that in mind in case you want to plan a family reunion here.

You will find picnic tables, BBQ grills, drinking water, and pit toilets at the campground, but ensure to bring warm, water-resistant clothing; the high altitude and ever changing weather are unpredictable and the temperatures are low!
