Winter Vacation: Deer Valley, Park City, Utah

Located right near the canyon at Park City, Utah, about 36 miles from Salt Lake City, you will find one of the highest ranked ski resorts of the U.S.: Deer Valley.

Deer Valley has been the host for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the 2003 and the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships, which indicates that it has come a long ways from the winter of 1936, when skiing first started and the first ski trails, along with other related facilities, got off the ground.

During the period from 1946 to 1969, the area was known as the Snow Park Ski Area. I am not quite sure why or how the name changed to what it is now, but it has developed into one of the most upscale and expensive ski resorts ever since.

After the appearance of the first ski lifts in 1946, Deer Valley now has 21 chairlifts of which 11 are high speed detachable quads, and an enclosed 4-passenger gondola, taking you up to enjoy the wonderful, impeccably kept slopes, tree skiing trails and pristine hiking trails.

Since the resorts are more geared towards the larger budgets, you will not find a huge crowd on the slopes. As a matter of fact, they ensure it will not be buzzing with people due to limiting the amount of daily passes.

What you can expect though is being able to bathe in luxury and staying at one of the lodges will include free ski valets and parking shuttles. Shops are readily available, as well as a wide selection of restaurants. You don't have to leave the slopes; you can already have a culinary experience right on the mountain.

As far as activities and accommodations go; there are plenty around and what and where will follow soon!
