Day Trip: Lake Ontario Parkway, New York

Even when things get tight and you may not have much to spend on a vacation you can still take some enjoyable day trips which don't cost an arm and a leg. A good example is this Lake Ontario Parkway road trip from Rochester to Youngstown in New York.

Especially when you like to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while, this 89 mile trip is a wonderful, unexpected, quiet and pleasant feast for the eyes, offering scenery you would not have imagined to find so close to this metropolitan area.

This part of Lake Ontario Parkway was built during the 1950s and early 1960s and leads you for the most part along lakefronts, falls and state parks, through orchards, vineyards, forests, and wide open meadows and comes closest to the shore of Lake Ontario.

There is plenty of opportunity to stop and admire the beauty of all nature has got to offer along the way. You will not hinder anyone by doing so, because during the week, this Parkway is practically void from any traffic and you will have the road all to yourself.

The best time to take this day trip is during the first 9 months of the year when nature awakens, is in full bloom or when the colors of fall paint the landscape. Even though it is not a very long route, you should plan on making a morning or afternoon out of it.

You don't want to pass up anything!
