Day Trip: U.S. Route 85 Through The Dakotas

There are many scenic routes all over the country, but if you love the view of majestic mountains then U.S. route 85 from Deadwood in South Dakota to Williston in North Dakota should be high on your list.

The route between the Appalachians and the Rockies is about 300 miles long and leads into the Black Hills, when coming from Wyoming, where spectacular and astounding scenery will take your breath away.

Don't be afraid to take the nearby highways such as the 14- mile Needles Highway and feast your eyes on the many granite formations, gorgeous overlooks, and beautiful Sylvan Lake. Be careful though and take your time; the road has many turns and twists.

You can make an entire day out of by visiting the many attractions along the way. In Deadwood you can find the Wild West theme park, Roosevelt National Park in aspic, and admire the Badlands which have just as much to offer as the Black Hills.

When you decide to drive this stretch of the route then it is recommended to fill your tank to the brim, and it couldn't hurt to bring some extra. Don't forget to stack up on food and drinks, because there are very few accommodations along the way to cater to these needs.

Another tip is to ensure you have plenty of batteries for your camera and your phone is fully charged; you will need those for taking pictures of all the incredible sights you will see!
