Share A Meal
This post brought to you by The Walmart Foundation. All opinions are 100% mine.
I don't want to spoil it for you, but the next time you are on vacation and enjoy one of those savory meals in a restaurant, you may want to consider those 50 million Americans who are going hungry, mainly due to unemployment. Spring is even harder on them, because (charitable) donations to food banks decrease during this season, but you can help a family in need with just a click and Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart on Facebook.
The nationwide Fighting Hunger Together is an initiative from Walmart working with Feeding America, ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg's, to offer relief for families in need. It takes place from Monday, April 9th through April 30th, 2012, and you can vote for one of the 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by a Department of Labor Report.
Walmart will donate $1 million to the community with the highest vote and $50,000 to each of the 20 runners-up. The winning communities will be announced on May 1st, but you have to go there, cast your vote, and don't forget to spread the word; it means all the difference to a starving family. My vote would stay in my own state and go to Decatur, Alabama.
Another way you can help is by paying attention to the signs in the stores and the packaging of products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg's. By buying one of those select products during the period of April 9 through April 30, you can donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger.
Your dinner will taste a whole lot better when knowing that a family in need is enjoying a meal due to your participation in this campaign!
