Touring Sunnylands, Rancho Mirage, California

When you decide to take a Sunnylands tour, you can expect to be presented with a beautiful view of the San Jacinto Mountains and a meticulously created, nine-acre landscape which stretches out before your eyes.

With over 53,000 plants and Eco-friendly designed, the garden offers a different sight each season and that, including shade, silence and different natural elements, can be enjoyed to the fullest by walking the 1.25 miles of paths that wind through it, or take a break alongside of them.

The two twin pools and patios on each side of the Center should not be ignored and for the daredevils among you there is even a labyrinth to the west. A lot of the native wildlife has made this garden its home and can be encountered during the tour.

Inside Sunnylands Center, you can find an interactive gallery, theater and many informational panels. The gallery has touch-screen kiosks and provides everything you need and want to know about Sunnylands, while the theater will familiarize you with its history and owners.

Don't forget to admire the golf course, 11 manmade lakes and the collection of English silver-gilt which has been the passion of Leonore and Walter Annenberg since 1959 and of which some is on display for the public.

You can buy some souvenirs, art and gifts at the Sunnylands Shop and after all that food for thought the Sunnylands Café is a perfect place to refresh and recharge with a beverage, snack, or lunch, while enjoying the scenery.

Enough parking spaces are available and free of charge, but know beforehand that a lot of walking and standing is in order and that there is no seating in the house. Transportation takes place in open vehicles, so dress appropriately, and for those with limited mobility; the gardens are partially wheel chair accessible.

Even though it does not take up too much of your time, this is absolutely a nice outing, giving you a good impression of how and where the rich and famous rest, relax and confer.

Don't be envious, but look at the sunny side: at least you are not burdened with all the responsibilities that come with it!
