The Polar Express, Ely, Nevada

Who hasn't read the book 'The Polar Express' by author Chris Van Allsburg or seen the movie by Warner Bros.?

If you are one of the few who hasn't, you better do so first, then gather up your family and head out to Ely, Nevada, afterwards. Once there, you can board the genuine steam locomotive the Polar Express licensed by Warner Bros. and experience the magical train ride to the North Pole for real.

For the past several years, every Friday after Thanksgiving, an almost century old steam locomotive is ready to take its passengers for a visit with Santa Claus. This year, the Polar Express arrived early and you can take the exciting journey from November 17th through December 29th, 2012.

The 2 hour roundtrip is organized by Nevada Northern Railway. You will be given a ticket similar to the one used in the movie, the famous story will be read and music from the movie soundtrack will be played during the journey, while the passengers enjoy the complimentary served hot chocolate and cookies.

Once arrived at the North Pole, Santa Claus and his elves board the train and visit with all the passengers, handing out a silver bell to each. It doesn't end there, because the ride back is just as enchanting as the ride to the North Pole, as you are about to find out!
