Sandcastle Hotel, Dorset, United Kingdom

Even though it is a day late and a dollar short so to speak, I didn't want to withhold this long gone, but unique and weird accommodation from you.

This 'hotel room' was entirely made out of sand on Weymouth beach in Dorset, UK, last year. It took several sculptors, with the help of a digger, a week and 1000 tons of sand to create the first, largest, only, and probably last sand castle hotel.

The sand castle hotel started out as a PR stunt to bring attention to the Great British Beach Holiday and was a creation of Mark Anderson. This sculptor was engaged by a website to sculpt a sand castle resembling a hotel and he came up with a 50 feet square by 13 feet high family room.

The room had a double and a single bed made out of sand and a gorgeous view of the sea. There were some drawbacks though; it had no roof, no bathroom, and no shower/bathing facilities. From a positive standpoint you could say that you literally slept under the stars, didn't get sand in every 'nook and cranny', and had an entire sea to bathe in.

Spending a night in this room would have cost you $21. I am not sure if they are going to repeat this stunt again this year, but when they do, you better be quick making reservations. Also ensure there is no rain in the forecast, otherwise the world will literally fall apart around you!
