Son Doong Cave, Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, Vietnam

Whether you enjoy trekking, caving, river crossing, and like to explore and behold what I would call the eight world wonder, the Son Doong Cave in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, located in the province of Quang Binh in Vietnam, offers an incredible opportunity for doing so.

This huge underground cave, which could fit a 40-story skyscraper inside its walls, is like a world within the world. It sure is the largest cave in the world and presents us with stunning and breath-taking views. Since daylight pierces through many parts of the cave, large jungles with gigantic trees, rare plant species, and new animal species can be found here.

Sections of the over 5.5 miles long cave are home to enormous stalagmites, stalactites and rim stone pools, while other parts are covered with large cave pearls, or fields of algae from ancient pools. Underground rivers, waterfalls, and large fossils which are over 300 million years old can be found here as well.

It sounds too good to be true, but take a look and decide for yourself.

It will take several days to explore the Son Doong Cave and having a camp-out here would be desirable. Well, that is now possible. The cave is open to the public and the tour company Oxalis has exclusive permission running tours inside and setting up overnight camps.

If this sounds interesting then stay tuned. More information will follow soon!
