The Hobbiton, Matamata, New Zealand

Before the turkey hit the table, I planned on giving you some other food for thought as far as cute and unusual accommodations go. I was in the middle of the post when I came to the discovery I had already drawn your attention to the Hobbit Hotel at Woodlyn Park in New Zealand two years ago.

Well, so much for the post and with not very much time left for research, I almost ended up empty handed. Instead, I decided to share a fun fact with you about the Hobbiton.

This Hobbit village is located in Matamata, New Zealand, and was built specifically for the movie The Lord of the Rings.

The movie company developed a path to a suitable site and built 37, environmental-friendly hobbit houses which were used in the film. After shooting the movie, the plan was to tear them down and restore the natural environment.

However, thousands of fans pleaded with the Matamata residents not to let that happen and.... it didn't. The abandoned hobbit habitats may be void of hobbits, but the sheep have gratefully moved in and use them as their shelter.

That is not all; it is said that many visitors arrive at the site each year to see the Hobbiton for themselves. How cool is that?! What doesn't need to be cool is the turkey and we better tend to that.

A very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Audrey,
Thank you, lieve zus. I would wish you the same, but I am pretty sure you don't have Thanksgiving Day in your neck of the woods.

That is okay. You don't need a particular day for giving thanks. Every day is excellent for doing so. :-)

God's Grace.
