New Discoveries

We are definitely going to be hammock campers. Last weekend we tried out the gear we already had and all of us settled on getting a hammock. The only thing I discovered and wasn't so keen about was the too curved posture our daughter's hammock offered me.

With a larger hammock and a few adjustments that should be resolved easily and we ordered two hammocks which were a few feet longer than the one our daughter is currently using. That should make a big difference in that department.

I sure loved the hammock-compatible sleeping bag instead of an under-quilt and top cover. It was nice, cozy and warm and slips over the hammock without any problems. As soon as all our equipment gets here and the weather is cooperating, we will give all of it a test run.

In the meantime, we visited the replicas of the Niña and the Pinta which were docked in Bayou La Batre, Alabama.

Columbus used these ships to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in his quest to discover the new world.

At the moment, these replicas are being used as floating museums to give you a taste of what life on board must have been like. A schedule of all the ports they will be visiting is available on The Columbus Foundation's website.

When you get a chance you really ought to pay them a visit. You will discover an entirely new and different world!
