Lake Bemidji State Park, Minnesota

Lake Bemidji State Park is a good destination for either a day trip or for staying a longer period of time. The over 1,600-acre park can be found about 5 miles from the city of Bemidji and offers plenty for nature-lovers, recreation, and activity seekers alike.

The lake is a result of a glacier which melted tens of thousands of years ago, forming the rolling landscape, swamps, and bogs. It is the habitat for much wildlife. You may spot all kinds of bird species, waterfowl, deer, beaver, mink, and even bears, to name a few.

There are lots of hiking trails, but you also have the option to go biking, picnicking, swimming, fishing, playing volleyball, and boating during summertime. In winter, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are the main activities on the agenda.

The park lends itself well for camping. Some of the sites have electricity and a few are suitable for the disabled. There are some spaces for small trailers and pick-up campers. Should you decide on staying just for the day then the beach, picnic tables, showers, restrooms, and grills are at your disposal.

You can rent canoes and boats in the summer and snowshoes in winter and participate in several different programs which are held almost every season. It sounds like fun, but after reading this you may want to forget about the day trip.

There is so much to see and do, you will never get that done in one day!
