Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

The best time of the year to spend some time in the South is now. Temperatures are down to a point where you can comfortably spend time outdoors and be active, while it is getting too cold for mosquitoes and snakes to pester you.

Pack up your camping gear, load up your RV and head out to Bayou Segnette State Park.

The park is located near Westwego in Louisiana and presents you with a galore of activities which the entire family will enjoy.

For $20 per night during the months of October through March, you will have a camp or RV site and be able to enjoy all the park has to offer.

Among all the amenities you will find water and electricity, WiFi, restrooms and showers, grills at site, free laundry and dump facilities.

There are pavilions, playgrounds, a wave pool ($10 per adult and $8 per child per day), hiking trials, salt and freshwater fishing, and boat ramps.

The park is handicap-friendly and even allows you to bring your pet.

Should camping or RV-ing not appeal to you; you have the option to stay in a comfortable cabin with a deck and a view over the bayou. Maybe you prefer to stay in one of the gorgeous antebellum homes which offer bed and breakfast or are open for tours.

You are not obligated to stay for a long period of time. A daytrip to Bayou Segnette State Park is another choice. The park is open to the public from 6 am to 9 pm daily and entrance fees are only $2 per person. Seniors 62 and over and children under 3 years of age can enter for free.

The Audubon Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, Jean Laffite National Park, Louisiana Nature Center and the city of New Orleans are close by, but why would you leave the park when you have the chance to observe the abundant wildlife and vegetation?

Sit back, relax, and soak in the beauty of the bayou!
